Expanding Your Horizons

The EYH scheduled for October 16, 2021, has been cancelled.

The Board of Directors of the Lewis County AAUW in conjunction with the Co-chairs of EYH- 2021 has decided to put neither the safety nor the integrity of EYH at risk by choosing to present the conference at this time when our entire population is at risk of contracting and/or spreading a deadly virus.  We consider the lives of the young women, their families and the volunteers’ and presenters’ lives too valuable to proceed with Expanding Your Horizons – 2021 without any current assurances that the local Delta Variant will recede before October 16.

We are disappointed that the conference, which so vitally supports our mission statement, will be silenced for a second year.  However, we draw on our vitality as an organization and our hope for the future that we will see Expanding Your Horizons rise again in 2022 to stimulate and educate the many young women in our area about the many fascinating future careers open to them.

Expanding Your Horizons is an opportunity for middle school girls,  grades six through nine, to attend career exploration workshops that encourage them to enroll in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses.  The program begins with a presentation for all.  Then the girls attend 2 workshops of their choice where they learn from successful women why they chose their field, what they do, and what education is required to enter their profession.  They participate in hands-on exercises that are fun and which will help them get a sense of what the careers involve.

Visit the EYH page on Facebook for more information and photos from past events.
